| Join us for a Chamber Academy Workshop May 4 at the Chamber with guest speaker and Lufkin attorney Scott Skelton. He will speak on "Unemployment Law: Scent, Sense, and Sensitivity." Topics he will cover include: Race, age, gender and other forms of potential discrimination. We will discuss the Americans With Disabilities Act and some of the trends and pitfalls. We will discuss challenging unemployment benefits. We will discuss some “dos” and “don’ts” of workers compensation. We will discuss employee handbooks and what needs to be in them. We will discuss hiring and firing “dos” and “don’ts” We will discuss record keeping and documentation. We discuss litigation, how to avoid it and what to do if you get sued.
